The Air Force replaced its old Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) with the Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA), effective March 1, 2026. A six-month diagnostic period ran March through August 2026. Official scored testing resumed September 1, 2026 under DAFMAN 36-2905.
The biggest changes: the run distance went from 1.5 miles to 2 miles, body composition switched to waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and the point weighting shifted significantly.

2-Mile Run Scoring Chart — All Age Groups
The 2-mile run is worth 50 points — half your total score. It must be completed at least once per year. The HAMR shuttle is a valid alternative for the second test of the year. Times shown are for max score (50 pts) and minimum passing score (35 pts).

HAMR Shuttle Scoring Chart — All Age Groups
The 20-meter HAMR (High Aerobic Multi-shuttle Run) is a valid alternative to the 2-mile run. Shuttles are paced by an audio cadence that speeds up each level. Values shown are completed shuttles for maximum (50 pts) and minimum (35 pts) scores.

Body Composition — WHtR Scoring Chart
Body composition is worth 20 points and is scored using Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR). Formula: Waist (inches) ÷ Height (inches). The measurement is taken at the navel. This scoring table is identical for all ages and both genders.

0 pts — Component Failure
Important: A WHtR of 0.60 or above is an automatic component failure. Even a perfect score on all other events cannot compensate — you will fail the overall PFRA. WHtR can be measured up to 5 days before your physical events.
Push-Up Scoring Chart — All Age Groups
The strength component is worth 15 points. You choose either standard push-ups (1 minute) or hand-release push-ups (2 minutes) before the test. Values shown are for max score (15 pts) and minimum floor (2.5 pts).

How to Read the Scoring Chart
The tables show only the two endpoints of each scoring range — the maximum score and the minimum floor. Every rep or second between those two points earns proportional points on a linear scale.
Example: A male Airman aged 28 runs 2 miles in 16:45. The 25–29 bracket runs from 13:35 (50 pts) to 19:55 (35 pts). His time falls in the middle of that range, earning roughly 43 points on the cardio component.
The practical lesson: body composition (WHtR) and cardio together make up 70% of your total score. Neglecting either one makes passing very difficult even with strong push-up and core numbers.

How to Use the Scoring Chart to Improve Your Score
The most effective use of these tables is to work backward from your goal score. Start at 75 for passing, or 90 for Excellent. Then calculate what you need from each component based on your current fitness.
Cardio is half your score. A 5-minute improvement on your 2-mile run can add 8–12 points. This is where most Airmen can gain the most points fastest.
WHtR is the silent killer. A WHtR of 0.58 gives you only 5 points out of 20 — that 15-point deficit is nearly impossible to make up elsewhere. Measuring monthly and tracking waist reduction pays off more than extra push-up training.
Choose your core event wisely. The plank has identical standards for male and female Airmen in each age group — some find it easier to max than sit-ups. Try both in training before committing.
Push-ups are fast to improve. Multiple daily sets, well below failure, add reps quickly. Even 5 extra reps can add 1–2 points on the 15-point scale.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum score to pass the Air Force PT test in 2026?
You need a composite score of 75 or higher out of 100. You must also meet the minimum floor on each individual component — cardio minimum is 35 points, strength and core minimums are 2.5 points each. A WHtR of 0.60 or above is an automatic component failure.
Is the Air Force PT scoring chart different for males and females?
Yes. Run times, HAMR shuttle counts, push-up reps, sit-up reps, and plank hold times all have separate male and female tables for each of the 9 age groups. The WHtR body composition scoring is identical for both genders.
Do I have to run the 2-mile run for both tests each year?
You must complete the 2-mile run at least once per 365-day period. The HAMR shuttle is valid as an alternative for the other test of the year. You cannot substitute both tests with HAMR or the walk alternative.
What does the scoring chart look like for older Airmen?
Standards become more forgiving with age. For example, a male Airman aged 60+ needs to run 2 miles in 16:58 for the max score — compared to 13:25 for Airmen under 25. Push-up and core minimums also decrease with each 5-year age bracket.
Where is the official Air Force PT scoring chart published?
The official PFRA scoring charts are published by the Air Force Personnel Center at afpc.af.mil. The tables in this article reflect the official AFPC PFRA Scoring Charts effective 1 March 2026 under DAFMAN 36-2905.
Can I use this scoring chart to calculate my exact score?
The tables here show the maximum and minimum endpoints for each scoring range. Intermediate scores are calculated by linear interpolation — each additional rep or second of improvement earns proportional points between the two endpoints. For instant exact scoring, use our Air Force PT Calculator.
